Manchester Swim Teams Split With Valley

The Manchester swim teams split with Tippecanoe Valley Wednesday night.

Behind a strong team effort, the Manchester girls swim team defeated Tippecanoe Valley 111-51. Manchester took the top two spots in the 200 medley relay to start the meet off strong. Noelle Walt, Hannah Eberly, Elena Lawrence, and Evyn Fox took first followed closely by the team of Miriam Struble-Hedstrom, Rachel Garcia, Sophie Anglin, and Raegan Shah. In the 200 freestyle, Shah was second followed by Averi Thomas in third and Walt in fourth. Rachel Garcia easly won the 50 freestyle followed by Evyn Fox in third and Sophie Anglin in fourth. Elena Lawrence and Miriam Struble-Hedstrom took first and second in the 100 butterfly. Hannah and Joanna Eberly finished 2nd and 3rd in the 100 freestyle with Evyn Fox just behind in 4th place. In the 500 freestyle, Sophie Anglin took first in just her second time racing the event with a strong time. The Manchester relays continued their impressive night taking 1st and 2nd in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Hannah Eberly, Miriam Struble-Hedstrom, Raegen Shah, and Joanna Eberly finished just ahead of the team of Evyn Fox, Noelle Walt, Elena Lawrence, and Sophie Anglin. Rachel Garcia kept the victories coming in the 100 backstroke and Victoria Lopez de Uralde Ortize took her first career individual victory in the 100 breaststroke, finishing just ahead of Noelle Walt. Finally the 400 freestyle relay team of Hannah Eberly, Joanna Eberly, Elena Lawrence, and Rachel Garcia capped off the night with an dominating victory. The win pushes the Manchester girls record to 5-1 with two tough meets next week with Huntington North at home on Tuesday and a trip to Walton to take on Lewis Cass on Thursday.

Despite several strong swims, the Manchester boys swim team didn’t have the firepower to keep up with a very talented Tippecanoe Valley squad, falling 56-75. Cam Peacock had the team’s only individual victory in the 500 freestyle and he finished 2nd in the 100 breaststroke. Cale Bennett had a pair of second place finishes in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Luca Jelen had a pair of 3rd place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, tying teammate Jet Thomas for third in the latter. The 200 freestyle relay team of Gabe Selleck, Luca Jelen, Caleb Struble-Hedstrom, and Jet Thomas was victorious as well. Manchester record drops to 2-4 and they will host Huntington North on Tuesday and visit Lewis Cass on Thursday.
