Manchester Swim Teams Fall To Huntington North

The Manchester swim teams fell to Huntington North Tuesday night.

he girls team started strong, but ultimately lacked the depth to keep pace with an undefeated Huntington North team. Manchester jumped out to an early lead, winning the first three events. Rachel Garcia, Hannah Eberly, Joanna Eberly, and Noelle Walt won the opening 200 medley relay. Garcia took first in the 200 freestyle and Elena Lawrence out-touched the Huntington North swimmer to take first in the 200 IM. In the 50 freestyle, the Squires kept pace with Hannah Eberly, Joanna Eberly, and Sophie Anglin taking 2nd, 3rd, and 5th respectively to give Manchester the overall lead going into the diving break. After the break Joanna Eberly swam strong to finish 2nd in the 100 butterfly and Garcia took first in the 100 freestyle, before Huntington North took charge in the 500 freestyle by finishing 1st and 2nd ahead of Evyn Fox in 3rd. Manchester hung tough with a 2nd place finish in the 200 freestyle relay by Hannah Eberly, Joanna Eberly, Noelle Walt, and Garcia, along with another 2nd in the 100 backstroke by Elena Lawrence, but Huntington North continued to pull away. Hannah Eberly picked up the final Squire victory of the night in the 100 breaststroke. The Squires will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Lewis Cass to take on the Kings in what is expected to be another close meet.

The Manchester boys swim team fell to Huntington North 113-52. Cale Bennett led the Squires with first place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Cam Peacock was victorious in the 200 IM. Peacock picked up a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke and Gabe Selleck finished second in the 100 backstroke with a lifetime best time. Manchester finished second in all three relays: Jet Thomas, Peacock, Bennett, and Luca Jelen in the 200 medley relay; Thomas, Selleck, Caleb Struble-Hedstrom, and Jelen in the 200 freestyle relay; and Bennett, Selleck, Struble-Hedstrom, and Peacock in the 400 freestyle relay. Jerry Yen continued to show improvement in the 100 freestyle and Jan Vrkoc had a strong showing in the 50 freestyle in his first meet of the season. The Squires will be back in action for the final time before Christmas break when they travel to Lewis Cass on Thursday.
