Boys Varsity Basketball beats Western 55 – 49

The Boys Varsity Basketball Team got a much needed road win at Western tonight defeating the Panthers 55-49. The first quarter saw a combined 35 points scored as both teams came out strong. In the 2nd quarter it was the exact opposite, and only 11 combined points were scored. The big difference maker in that quarter was how the Golden Eagles defense clamped down and totally frustrated the Panthers as the Eagles won the quarter 9-2 taking a 10 point lead in to the half. After another high scoring 3rd quarter, the Eagles were up 6 going into the final quarter and held that lead throughout winning by 6 against the Panthers who were picked to win by 10. After Jace Tonagel had to sit out last game with an ankle injury, he made the most of his return by leading the Eagles offense from the point and scoring a team high 24 points on the night. The Eagles got balanced scoring from four more players to get a great team victory. It was Trenton Sweet stepping up with 10 points and one of the catalysts on the defensive end. Then Ty Fagan and RJ Shugart were next with 8 and 7 points respectively. Rounding out the scoring was Levi Trexler hitting 2 three point shots for his 6 points. The Golden Eagles will try and ride this momentum into this Saturday’s Grant 4 tournament where they will meet Madison-Grant on the Argylls home floor with a twelve noon opening round game.
