Girls Varsity Basketball beats Mississinewa 40 – 38

The Lady Braves move their record to 7-6 on the season with a win over Mississinewa 40-38.

In the first quarter, the Lady Braves were aggressive getting to the basket and went to the free throw line, and went 6-6 in the quarter. Miranda Stoll had 11 of her 21 point in that quarter.

In the 2nd quarter, both teams started to be a little bit more aggressive on defense to take things away but it was the three-point shot that gave the Lady Braves a 3-point lead going in at halftime. Miranda Stoll hit 2 three-point shots and Bailey Carson hit 1 three point shot for the Lady Braves to take a 26-23 halftime lead.

The Lady Braves talked at halftime about how defense was going to win this game and the ladies took that to heart. In the 3rd quarter the Lady Braves help Mississinewa to just 4 points in the quarter and took a 8 point lead into the 4 quarter.

In the 4th quarter, the Lady Braves had the chance to put some cushion into their lead by going to the free throw line 10 times but they only converted on 3 of those chances. With that Mississinewa made a run at the end of the quarter but with some timely steals and rebounds, Shaelyn Powell hit a free throw with 44 seconds left to give the Lady Braves a 3-point lead. And the Miranda Stoll hit a free throw with 2.3 seconds left to give the Lady Braves a 2-point lead and the win.

On the night, Miranda Stoll had 21 points and 5 rebounds, Ireland Kile had 6 points and 3 rebounds, Shaelyn Powell had 5 points and 4 rebounds. Leading the team in rebounds was Bailey Carson who had 8 rebounds, 3 assist and 5 steals.

The Lady Braves are back in action on Wednesday, December 27 in the Miami County Tourney against #2 (1A) Caston in game #2. Peru vs North Miami is game #1 and it starts at 12:00. Both games are played at Peru High School.
