Manchester Swimmers Fare Well At TRC Meet
The Manchester swim teams placed high in the TRC meet Saturday at Maconaquah.
Girls Swimming finishes 3rd place at TRC Conference
Behind Rachel Garcia’s pair of TRC championship victories, the girls swim team finished third overall at the TRC championships. Manchester opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay by Garcia, Hannah Eberly, Rachel Eberly, and Noelle Walt in 2:05.47. Evyn Fox finished 5th in the 200 freestyle in 2:30.04 with Sophie Anglin and Raegen Shah following in 10th and 11th place respectively with a 2:40.97 and 2:41.26. In the 200 IM, Miriam Struble-Hedstrom swam a strong 2:59.40 for 6th place and Wynter Harris swam a great race to finish 8th in 3:13.51. Garcia pulled away from the field in the 50 freestyle to capture her first championship of the day with a time of 25.65. Hannah Eberly swam a season best 28.02 to finish 4th and Noelle Walt was just behind to take 8th in 29.72. In the 100 butterfly, Joanna Eberly swam a lifetime best 1:08.62 to finish 2nd with Walt taking 5th in 1:20.51 and Struble-Hedstrom finishing 9th in 1:22.92. Garcia took her second victory of the day in the 100 freestyle with a 56.63. Raegen Shah finished just off the podium in 7th with a 1:09.33 and Laynen DeLaughter was 9th in 1:11.47. Evyn Fox swam a great race in the 500 freestyle to finish second with a 6:35.29. Sophie Anglin finished 10th in 7:21.01 and Adia Selleck was 12th with a 8:09.97. The 200 freestyle relay team of Hannah Eberly, Joanna Eberly, Walt and Garcia took a close 3rd with a season best time of 1:50.75. Joanna Eberly closed out a stellar meet with a third place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:12.84. Wynter Harris swam a lifetime best 1:29.57 to finish 9th and Averi Thomas was just behind in 10th with a lifetime best 1:32.44. In the 100 breaststroke, Hannah Eberly finished 2nd in 1:19.02, Kadence Fox was 7th in 1:25.34 and Victoria Lopez de Uralde Ortiz was 9th in 1:35.47. The 400 freestyle relay team of Evyn Fox, Sophie Anglin, Laynen DeLaughter, and Raegen Shah closed out the meet with a 3rd place finish with a time of 4:48.13. Manchester will return to the pool on February 1st when they compete in the prelims of the Warsaw sectional.
Boys Swimming finishes 5th place at TRC Conference
Led by Cale Bennett’s TRC championship win in the 100 butterfly, the Manchester boys swim team placed 5th overall at the TRC Championships at Maconaquah. The Squires opened the meet strong as the team of Jet Thomas, Cam Peacock, Bennett, and Caleb Struble-Hedstrom took 4th in the 200 medley relay with a season best time of 1:58.68. In the 200 freestyle, Thomas knocked 6 seconds of his personal best time to finish 8th in 2:24.89. Cam Peacock was unable to overcome a slow start in the 200 IM to finish 9th.Gabe Selleck and Jan Vrkoc picked up valuable team points in the 50 freestyle finishing 11th and 12th respectively. Bennett was the top seed going in to the 100 butterfly and powered away from a tight field for the lone Squire victory of the meet finishing first in a personal best time of 58.66. In the 100 freestyle, Thomas earned more points for the Squires with a 10th place finish in 1:03.94. Bennett followed up his strong 100 fly with a 3rd place finish in the 500 freestyle in a season best 5:39.72. The 200 freestyle relay team of Vrkoc, Jerry Yen, Selleck, and Struble-Hedstrom finished 5th in 2:02.92. Selleck cut 5 seconds off of his lifetime best in the 100 backstroke to finish 6th in 1:13.76. Cam Peacock rebounded from a tough 200 IM to take 3rd in the 100 breaststroke with a solid 1:09.72. Struble-Hedstron and Jan Vrkoc were just behind to finish 9th and 11th repectively in 1:13.74 and 1:30.40. The Squire relay team of Bennett, Thomas, Selleck, and Peacock capped off the meet with a strong 3rd place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:04.46. The Manchester boys will hunker down for heavy training for the next few weeks in preparaton for the sectional on February 15th at Warsaw.
