Southwood JH Girls Sweep Northfield
The Southwood junior high girls basketball teams won a pair of games over Northfield Tuesday.’
Southwood won the 7th grader contest 38-33.

The Norse were led by Gemma Haupert with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals. Avery Custer poured in 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals along with 2 charges. Vivian Rife had 4 points, 3 rebounds. Miranda Meyer had 3 points, 3 rebounds. Kassidy Cartwright had 3 points. Tenley Kuhn rounded out the scoring with 2 points, 5 rebounds.

Southwood Lady Knights played an excellent defensive game pressuring the visiting lady Norse and securing an overtime victory 18-15. The lady Knights battled on the defensive side of the ball all evening creating multiple defensive stops and controlling the boards getting 20 team rebounds. Both teams battled in the 1st quarter to a 2-2 tie. The 2nd quarter was much of the same as both teams displayed tough hardnose defense. Southwood lady Knights won the 2nd quarter 5-3, taking a halftime lead into the locker room with a 7-5 advantage. The lady Knights struggled in the 3rd quarter offensively as the Norse held them scoreless. After being down 8-7 after 3 quarters of play, the lady Knights showed grit and determination and fought through in the end to tie the game up at 13-13 to force overtime. In overtime, the pressure defense of the Knights forced some big turnovers which led to 5 points in overtime to secure the win 18-15. The Lady Knights are now 7-2 on the season.
