Boys Varsity Basketball beats Logansport 76 – 67

The Oak Hill Golden Eagles varsity basketball team defeated 4A Logansport 76–67 behind a strong 1st half and a huge 2nd quarter! After being down 4 after the first quarter, the Eagles defensive intensity picked up and led to some easy scoring opportunities as the Golden Eagles dominated the 2nd quarter winning it by 18 points to take turn the first quarter deficit in to a 14 point halftime lead. The Eagles then came out the second half and held on for a nine point victory. It was a great team victory that saw a very balanced scoring effort from the Eagles. RJ Shugart led the team with 18 points and 5 assists followed by Jace Tonagel with 17 points and 7 assists. Colin Middlesworth had 16 points, Trenton Sweet with 11, and Jackson Lamb with 9. Rounding out the scoring was Levi Trexler with 3, and Ryan Lawson with 2. That moves the Golden Eagles to 9–8 on the year. Next Friday we will host Blackford in a big CIC match, followed by #1 (2A) state ranked Tipton on Tuesday.

Oak Hill finished as the team champion by a comfortable margin in the Regional tournament held at Peru High School on Saturday, February 3. A school record-tying ten Golden Eagles advanced to next week’s Fort Wayne Semi-State. (Ten also advanced in 2015.) Tyson Kendal (138) and Emilio Liscano (144) were weight class champions. Manny Mora (106), Will Warnock (157), and RJ Trevino (165) finished second in their respective weight classes. Colin Tarlton (120), Devon Adkins (132), Hayden Wagner (150), Evan Miller (175), and Conner Fernandes (285) also advanced.
