Tigers explode in 3rd quarter to defeat Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger 69-59

The Tigers welcomed Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger on Friday night to Tig-Arena.

The Tigers spotted the Saints a 12-point lead as Dwenger opened the game on a 12-0 run with Peru struggling to knock down shots. The offense came alive closing the quarter on a 14-7 run.

The 2nd quarter saw the teams trade baskets both scoring 12 points in the quarter, leaving the Tigers trailing by 5 at half.

Someone must have turned the heater on high in the Tigers’ locker room because they came out of the break white hot from behind the arc. Junior Gavin Eldridge got the scoring started hitting his 1st of 3 made 3’s in the quarter(He scored the last 6 points of it as well) en route to a 29-point explosion. Senior’s Ian Potts, Alex Ross, and Matthew Roettger all got in the action knocking in a triple as well, the Tigers had 6 of their 10 made 3’s in the quarter. Roettger also went 6 for 6 from the charity stripe. Peru erased the deficit and led by 8 to start the final stanza.

The fourth quarter saw the Tigers slow their offense down, working the ball around, and making the Saints play a full 47 feet of half-court defense. Peru only made 1 basket in the quarter, a Junior Xavier Turner tip-in, but used good defense and 12 of 14 from the foul line to extend the lead to the game’s final margin.

Sophomore Reis Bellar played a good game even though he didn’t score. Junior Jaxson Manriquez, Sophomores Issac Braley and Olliver Rabe, and Freshman Zion See played well in their moments on the court as the Tigers battled foul trouble.

The win moves the Tigers to 10-(4-2 TRC) on the season. They are back in action on Friday night as they host the Squires of Manchester in a TRC showdown at 7:45 pm. Come out early and enjoy a chili dinner being put on by the Baseball Tigers in the Commons area before the game.
