The Northfield and Southwood boys basketball teams hooked up in a classic metro defensive showdown Friday with the Knights holding off the Norse 37-32.

In a low scoring affair, the Knights would lead 6-4nafter the first stop. Maddox Marshall would core the last bucket of the first quarter before draining two long ball to start the second. Dalton Barney would follow with a three point play as the Knights built their lead to 14-4. Carter Rogers would stop the Southwood run with a three. After a Will Winer bucket Tyson Baer ended the scoring in the quarter with a three as the Knights led 16-10 at the half.

The Knights looked as they might run away with the game in the third, building a 25-13 lead with Marshall and Winer doing most of the scoring, but the Norse would claw their way back with Rogers scoring twice to make it 25-17 after three.

Again the Knights would start the quarter with a run with Bryce Wilcox, Winer and Marshall extending the Southwood lead to 31-17 before the Norse made it interesting. Jaden Baer would drain a three that started an 8-0 run to close the deficit to 31-25. Wilcox would stop the run before Rogers hit a three and two free throws with 1:40 to play to make it 33-30. Barney and Marshall would then make it 36-30 before a Rogers bucket. One free throw from Winer was enough as the Knights held on for the 37-32 win.
