Historic Season Comes To An End For Lady Kings

There were a lot of firsts for this year’s Lady Kings Basketball team. This was the first winning season in 21 years. This was their first Sectional Championship in 19 years. This was their 1st Regional Championship ever. But unfortunately, their season had to come to an end in the Semi-State semi-finals with a 25-35 loss to Andrean.

In a defensive battle from the start, the Kings, again relied on their stingy 2-3 zone to keep them in the game. This year, the Lady Kings boasted the best defensive team in the state holding teams to just over 30 points per game. However, they needed a little more assitance from their offense as they were only able to score 3 pts in the 1st quarter and 1 pt in the 4th quarter.

Kinsey Mennen led the Kings with 8 points. Mennen ended her career as one of the top blockers, rebounders, and passers in school history placing her in the top 10 in each category.

Heta Kosunen scored 6 points in the 2nd half as she tried to will the Kings to a lead with her 3rd quarter push. Heta was 2nd in rebounding for the Kings this season.

Mylie Sipe and Ava Hubner each had a three pointer in the 1st half to keep pace with the 59ers. Sophomore standouts Anna Hedrick and Aftin Griffin were held to just 2 points each as the faced pressure the entire game. Senior Faith Helvie rounded out the scoring for the Kings as she added 1 pt from the free throw line.

The Lady Kings end their season with a 22-4 record, a conference championship, a sectional championship, and a regional championship.
