Warriors Finish Regular Season

The North Miami boys basketball season is in the final guaranteed week of play and the Warriors are looking to build momentum. Coming fresh off their third win of the year, the team is ready for a rematch with the Caston Comets ahead of their Sectional game. After suffering a 47-26 loss in the Miami County Tournament consolation game to the Comets, the Warriors have a new gameplan on the road. NM is hoping to win consecutie games for the first time this season and have great momentum going into the Sectional.

The Warriors first possession was a long one, and it resulted in a field goal for a great start. Caston didn’t waste any time scoring, and it looked like that was going to be how Caston played for all 32 minutes. NM stuck to their plan for most of the first and tried to keep the game slowed down for them. After an intense first quarter, the Comets led just 13-11. Both sides kept their offenses going at the same paces for about half of the second quarter. Then the Comets hit couple threes over a scoring span and started to get the Warriors worried. Caston’s shooting gave them a bigger lead, and were up 12 at the half.

The third quarter showed a complete different side of the Warriors than what the first half showed. They were trying to score within seconds of getting the ball and weren’t 100% focused when defending. Caston was able to take advantage of a team that looked lost and kept expanding their lead. The Warriors had their lowest scoring quarter while the Comets had their highest score and were starting to pull away with this game. There wasn’t much difference in the fourth for either side other than the score being closer. When the final buzzer went off, the Comets came away with a 62-31 victory to celebrate their Senior Night.

The Warriors have now wrapped up their final regular season game and have seen a lot of progress over this season compared to last. They finish with a 3-19 record, two more wins than they had last year. They were also able to capture their first conference win in two years and will look for more when they change to a different conference next season. Now the team’s focus shifts to Tuesday in the first round of Sectional play. They take on the Winamac Warriors, the team that eliminated them last season. It will be a tough task to beat a team after a loss like this, but the Warriors will be purely focused on what Tuesday holds for them.
