Apaches Hold Off Rochester In Sectional Opener
The Wabash Apaches opened sectional play Tuesday, taking on Rochester and defeating the Zebras for the second time in two weeks 56-48.
Trevor Daughtry would get off to a hot start for the Apaches, hitting two long balls for a 10-9 lead. Down 11-10 Grant Ford would chime in with a three followed by two more buckets from Daughtry to ;ead 19-11 after one.
Rochester would come storming back in the second, scoring 11 of the first 13 points to grab a 22-21 lead before Ford hit a long ball to lead 24-22.Tied at 27, Daughtry would score the final bucket of the half to give Wabash a 29-27 lead.
Izaak Wright hit two free throws to start the third quarter that was followed by two Ford buckets and one from Alex Dinkins to make it 38-30. At 38-34 Daughtry would hit, followed by two Ford free throws for a 42-34 lead after three.
Ford would give the Apaches a 9 point lead before once again the Zebras came storming back. Rochester cut the Wabash lead to 3 points multiple times and down to 2 points once. Leading 51-48 the Apaches would score then last 5 points of the game for the 56-48 win.
