The HSR Qualifing meets are scheduled through the 1st three week of March leading up to the Indoor State Championships Saturday March 23th. While the qualifying meets are a mixture of all classes the HSR Finals are broken up into two classes/divisions (1a-2a-3a “small school” & 4a-5a-6a “large school”) based on IHSAA Football Classification. The Top 24 ranked performers in each event in each class/division earn a spot in the HSR Finals held this year at the Fall Creek Pavillion located at the Indiana Fairgrounds.

The top individual performance by a Golden Eagle Saturday was Senior Nate Brower who cleared 13 feet in the Pole Vault taking 2nd overall and 1st for the “small school” division. Brower’s jump was an indoor personal best and ranks as the 2nd best clearance indoors ever by a Golden Eagle. The program record is just 3 inches higher at 13-3 held by both Gavin Holz and Caiden Lake who both set the mark in 2019. Brower’s younger brother Freshman Golden Eagle Kyle tied for 6th overall in the Pole Vault with a jump of 10-6 best for 3rd in the “small school” division. Kyle’s mark of 10-6 is a Top 10 All Time Program mark indoors as well.

The best Golden Eagle relay performances came from the same foursome twice. The 4×800 Meter Relay and Distance Medley Relay consisting of Golden Eagle Seniors Owen Jackson and Toby Sneed along with Junior Lance Wyrick and Sophomore Corban Tippey posted two Top 5 overall and 1st place “small school” division marks. In the 4×8 the Golden Eagle foursome posted a 8:32 good enough for 4th overall and 1st in our respective class. The time is the 2nd best indoor time ever in program history trailing only a 8:29 set in 2019. The 3 teams to beat the Golden Eagles in the 4×8 were Carmel, Avon, and Westfield. In the DMR, an event where a Golden Eagle runs a 400, 800, 1200, and 1600 the same group finished 5th overall and 1st in their class. The time of 11:18 was the 4th fastest indoor time in program history. The 4 teams to beat the Golden Eagles in this relay were Zionsville, Carmel, Columbia City, and Noblesville.

Another stellar individual performance came from Freshman Golden Eagle Jalen Scott who opened his career with a 7.26 in the 60 Meter Dash which ties him for 2nd in program history with Sammy Sommers and trailing only Tahj Johnson’s 7.14 both from 2019. Scott’s mark was good enough for 11th overall in the meet and 3rd in our “small school” division.

Scott anchored the 4×200 Meter Relay team to a 14th overall in 1:40 a time good enough for 4th in our division and ranked 9th all time in program history. He was joined on the relay by Senior AJ Austin along with Juniors Micah McKinney and Morshown Cotton.
