Wabash tennis lost a close and highly contested match vs Whitko on Thursday night, 2-3.

The 2 doubles team of Emma Weaver and Bridget Bailey were the first off the court, losing 1-6, 1-6. Out of all the opponents this duo has faced all season, Whitko put the most pace on the ball. It proved to be too much for Wabash.

Emma Adams, 2 singles, was the next off the court for the Apaches. Emma fell 2-6, 4-6. Emma was able to keep her opponent moving, but ultimately it wasn’t enough. Emma is starting to feel more comfortable in her role at singles, and her game will continue to develop as she gets more matches under her belt.

Maddie Von Uhl and Abbi Hipskind, playing at 1 doubles, won 7-5, 6-3. The duo knew that they could not get off to a slow start and needed to keep the momentum going throughout the entirety of the match. The duo kept the spectators on their toes in the first match, but they were able to close out the second set with ease.

Hadley bounced back at 3 singles tonight. She won the first set in a dominant fashion 6-0. She lost the second set 4-6, but she didn’t let that affect her. She went into the third set strong and won 6-1.

With the match score tied 2-2, it was up to 1 singles player Alexa Johnson to get the final point for the Apaches. Alexa lost the first set 1-6, but she was able to claw her way back in and win the second set 6-2. After fighting hard in the second set, she ran out of steam and lost the third set 2-6. Coach Ford shared, “Alexa is in a tough position playing at 1 singles. She goes up against the best players every night. Tonight’s match was no different. This was the best Alexa has played all season, and although she lost, I hope she uses this as momentum moving forward into our invitational this weekend”.

JV struggled tonight, losing all 3 matches. Sophie France and Amanda Alspach both lost their singles matches 2-8. After their matches ended, they teamed up to play doubles together. The freshmen lost their doubles match 2-8 against an experienced senior and junior combo.

Wabash hosts their own invitational on Saturday, matching up against Whitko, Triton, and Taylor. The invite starts at 10AM.
