The varsity girls basketball team at Lewis Cass starts right where they left off a season ago with a huge season opening win over Eastern, 74-16. The Kings utilized their speed and full court press to push their way to a 26-6 first quarter lead. After that, they relied on their half court 2-3 zone, which was the best defense in Indiana a year ago, to keep the Lady Comets at bay. However, it wasn’t just their defense that was put on display, they Lady Kings showed off their offense by hitting 10 three’s on their way to the most points scored in a game since 2000.
Aftin Griffin led all scorers with a career high 27 points. Griffin also hit 5 of the Kings 10 threes. Senior Mylie Sipe scored 13. Anna Hedrick scored 12 points, 10 of which came in the 1s quarter as she helped the Kings start strong. Sophomore Laney Davis made an immediate impact to the starting line up as she added 11 points to the total. Other scorers for the Kings were Hope Rush with 5, Presley Johnson with 4, and Kylie Logan with 2 points.
