The Northfield Norsemen rode a balanced scoring attack, holding off Eastbrook 49-46 Saturday.
The Norse jumped out to a 5-0 lead off a three pointer from Carter Rogers and a bucket from Ty Leming. Ryder Schram would add a long ball as the Norse built a 14-5 lead after two more long balls from Tyson Baer and Rogers. Northfield led 16-10 after the first stop.
Up 16-12 early in the second a free throw each from Jaden Baer and Tyson Baer, plus a field goal from Jake Perney made it 20-12. Eastbrook would score the last five points of the quarter as Northfield clung to a 20-17 halftime lead.
The third quarter was a battle of trading buckets. Jaden Baer, Rogers and Cody Holmes did all the scoring as the Norse lead shrunk to one at 30-29 after three.
Eastbrook would grab their first lead of the game to start the fourth quarter on a three pointer with the Norse responding. Tyson Baer would hit two free throws, followed by four straight points from Holmes to go up 36-32. The two teams would keep trading buckets with the Norse continuing to feed Holmes. Two Tyson Baer free throws, followed by a Panther three made it 42-42. Holmes would then score the next three points for the Norse as they led 45-43 with 59.8 on the clock. The Norse defense, which was solid all night then created a turnover before Jaden Baer hit two free throws with 33.5 left for a 47-43 lead. One more time the defense would come up big before Rogers hit two from the charity stripe with 13.2 on the clock for a 49-43 lead. Eastbrook would hit a three right before the buzzer for the 49-46 final.
