The Manchester Boys Varsity Soccer team beat conference opponent Tippecanoe Valley 6-0 on Tuesday to advance their record in the TRC to 3-0, and 5-1 overall.

For the first twenty minutes of a very physical game, neither team could seem to get the upper hand until a Valley player took down Nathaniel Miller in the box, and Michael Ortiz stepped up to convert the penalty kick. Less than four minutes later, Liam York slotted a pass to Tyler McLain who scored to allow the Squires to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the game broke open as the Manchester Boys scored four more goals. Ortiz scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Evan Martynowicz, followed by a goal by Nathaniel Miller, assisted by Ortiz. The scoring was rounded out by two more goals from McLain, both assisted by Roberto Iaione. In the midst of the scoring, the Squires also were awarded another penalty kick, but failed to convert the opportunity. One Valley player was given a yellow card for an altercation after the whistle.

Squire goalkeeper Kolby Haecker was credited with a shutout, with the help of a goal line save by defender Dylan Hernandez. 23 Manchester players played in the game, including several freshmen who saw their first varsity minutes of the year.

The Squires face Columbia City at home on Thursday, with both JV and Varsity games scheduled.
