Peru traveled to Marion on Monday to start their 5 games over 8 days road trip.

Each team went scoreless in the first inning, even though they both had baserunners due to an error.

The Tigers struck first in the top of the 2nd when Junior Jacob Boswell singled to left, who then misplayed the ball, allowing Senior Bryce Hill to score from 1st after he led off the inning with a single. Boswell advanced to 2nd base on the same error. 2 wild pitches later and Boswell scampered home to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

The Giants had a couple of runners in scoring position with 2 outs after a walk and an error, but left them both stranded there.

Peru tacked on 2 more runs after Senior Gavin Eldridge reached base on an error to start the inning, Junior Isaac Braley with an infield single, and Junior Lucas Musser grounded out to 2nd to plate Eldridge, and Hill finished it off with a double to right to plate Braley. Peru led 4-0.

Marion again had a couple of guys on following a walk and a well-placed bunt, but an infield fly led to the 2nd out. Musser then hosed a runner trying to steal 3rd for the final out of the inning.

The Tigers broke it open in the top of the 4th with a 2-out rally. Eldridge and Braley both walked. Junior Reis Bellar notched his first hit of the season with a ground-rule double( it would have been at least a triple, but the ball rolled under the fence), driving in Eldridge. Musser singled to center to drive in both Braley and Bellar. Hill tallied his 2nd double of the day, driving in Musser for the final run of the inning, giving Peru a commanding 8-0 advantage.

Marion picked up a run in the bottom of the 4th following a walk, a double, and a single in order. Peru led 8-1.

Peru went 4 up and 3 down in the 5th, Senior Trevi Hillman reached first on a dropped 3rd strike/wild pitch. The Giants drew a lead-off walk, but 3 straight groundouts ended the inning.

The Tigers tallied their last run of the game in the top of the 6th. Musser was hit by a pitch. Senior Ryne Butt picked up his first hit of the 2025 campaign with a long single to the left centerfield game, scoring Musser.

Marion cut into the lead, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th on an error, 2 singles, and a double. Junior Devin Evans fielded 2 ground balls from the pitcher’s position, making an out at 3rd and one at first to end the inning.

Peru had 2 baserunners in the top of the 7th, when Jacob Boswell reached on an error and Junior Jackson Boswell singled, but the next 2 guys went down on strikes to end the threat.

Marion got the first 2 guys on in the bottom of the 7th with a walk and a single putting runners at the corners. Jackson Boswell picked the runner off of first for the first out, struck the batter out for out number 2, and then Braley made a highlight reel play tracking down a fly ball on the foul line to end the ballgame.

The win improves the Tigers to 2-3 on the season. They kick of conference play on Wednesday traveling to Lewis Cass with first pitch at 5:30 pm.
