The Manchester girls tennis team defeated Northfield in the semifinals of the Peru Sectional Wednesday, May 20, by a score of 4-1.
The Norse took a 1-0 lead when Saige Martin and Vivian Rife defeated Tallulah Gawthrop and Ruby Martin, 6-1, 6-2.
Manchester’s Myla Crozier tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Callie Hoffman at No. 1 singles.
In a long No. 2 singles match, Manchester’s Bethany Penrod outlasted Vivian Haupert, 6-3, 6-4, to give Manchester a 2-1 lead in the team score.
In a back-and-forth match at No. 1 doubles, Manchester’s Kate Schroll and Lexie Nichols pulled out a 6-2, 0-6, 6-3 win to clinch the team match for the Squires.
In the longest match of the night, Manchester’s Chase Blevins bounced back from a first set loss to close out a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory.
