The Wabash cross country teams ran in the Taylor Invite Saturday.
The Wabash High School boys cross country team competed in the Taylor University Invitational Saturday morning coming in 5th out of 15 schools. Homestead won the meet followed by Yorktown in 2nd, Zionsville in 3rd, and Western in 4th. This was the first meet of the season in which all Apaches competed. Kamden Oswalt, competing in his first meet of the season was the first Apache to cross the line, coming in 16th. Ezra Church also running in his first meet of the season came in 27th. James Unger wasn’t far behind in 30th place. Kedryn Evenson raced to a 50th place finish with Luis Trejo rounding out the top five in 72nd. Kalib Mabery raced well coming in 90th with Landen Fisher close on his heels in 98th. Demetri Shull improved his racing tactics this week coming in 106th and both Carter Pegg and Barrett Benzinger dropped significant time from the previous week coming in 130th and 132nd respectively
The Lady Apaches battled through a competitive field and challenging course, showing determination from the starting line to the finish. With runners of different experience levels coming together, Saturday’s race was another important step in developing the team and establishing the foundation for the season ahead. The girls were able to bring home 6th place out of 10 complete teams, with 15 schools represented.
Freshman Teresina Cordes, who had another incredible performance, adding her name to the course top 10 times AND broke her record from last weekend and set it again with a time of 18:15.05. Tesa finished 3rd overall.
Following in after Cordes, was Sutton Stoffel, another freshman, with a PR time of 21:35 and taking 32nd place overall. Next up for the team was Mya Golliher, a sophomore, coming in with a season PR time of 21:48 and taking 35th place. Coming in for the senior crew was Mia Fairchild, running her season opener time of 23:52 and placing 64th overall. Close behind her was another senior, Chloe Cooper, with her first EVER healthy 5k race with a 24:04 and 66th place. Cooper has been on the team, battling injuries from other seasons all during cross. Today was a special day to see Cooper in action. Next in the senior pack was Mallory Tart with her season opener. Tart ran a 25:08 and swiped 76th place overall. Racing into the finish was Emma Cantrell, another sophomore, with a season PR time of 26:28, and placing 89th overall. Josie Bailey rounded out the seniors with a season opening time of 27:19 after being out the last year. Bailey was able to take 93rd place overall, an exciting accomplishment to get a 5k in for her after a year of healing.
The boys middle school cross country team competed in the Taylor University Invitational on Saturday afternoon coming in 5th out of 11 schools. Homestead feeder schools Woodside and Summit came in 1st and 2nd with Warsaw feeder schools Edgewood and Lakeview coming in 3rd and 4th. Jeffery Small came in 6th to lead Wabash. Easton Cantrell (28th) led a pack of Apaches which included Luke Aspinwall (38th), Alek Aspinwall (42nd), Lukas Rojas (45th), and Will Sullivan (47th). Aiden Young came in 79th. 5th graders Chase LaSalle and Parker Treska came in 125th and 130th. Isaac Mattern came in 147th with Leo Miles in 155th. Finn Fairchild finished in 168th. There were a total of 172 runners in the field.
Coming in first for the running Apaches race crew was 5th grader, Caroline Myers, running in with a PR time of 14:12 and placing 46th overall. Following in was 6th grader Eva Sommers with a PR tied time of 14:46 and taking 58th place in the race. Following in for the Apaches was 6th grader Ruby Cantrell with a PR time of 16:30.7 and placing 88th overall. Right on her heels was 5th grader Marlowe Fansher with a PR time of 16:30.8 and in 89th. The next Apache in was our 5th grader, Lola Hill, with a PR time of 16:45 and coming in 93rd in the line up. Next for the team was 6th grader, Braelyn Jones, running in with a time of 17:23 and placing 100th overall. Another Apache into the shoot was 5th grader, Lily Hearn, running in with a time of 17:55 and taking 106th place. Next up was another 5th grader, Roslyn Hall, with a placement of 121st and running in with a PR time of 19:26. Following into the shoot was 5th grader, Alora Hampton, with a time of 19:32 and finishing in 123rd place. Not far from her was 5th grader Lauren Cook with a PR time of 19:59 and in 126th place. Up next was 6th grader Rory Edwards, finishing her race with a time of 21:23 and taking 135th place. Following into the shoot was Harper Ellet, an 8th grader. Ellet ran a time of 22:50 and placed 139th. New to the crew was Layna Eiler, a 5th grader, who ran her season opener race in a time of 23:02 and placing 141st. Up next for the team was 7th grader Raelyn Page with a time of 23:49 and taking 145th place. Finishing up the Apache line up was 7th grader Daisy Ravenscroft finishing her race in a time of 29:26 and placed 148th overall.
