After a couple hours of confusion, the official results confirmed what the eye test speculated: the Wabash High School boys cross country team won the class A varsity race at the Brown County Invitational Saturday morning.
Ezra Church was the individual champion beating the 118 runner field. James Unger (3rd), Kamden Oswalt (4th), Kedryn Evenson (9th), and Luis Trejo (15th), all finished in the top 20 of the class A race. Demetri Shull finished 51st, Landen Fisher 54th, Barrett Benzinger 96th, and Carter Pegg in 100th.
Teresina Cordes competed in the Elite Race and turned in another spectacular performance! Teresina finished 6th overall, earning a new personal best and a new Wabash school record with a time of 18:01!
The rest of the Lady Apaches competed in the Varsity Race, putting together a strong team effort and continuing to gain valuable experience against tough competition. As a team, the girls placed 6th place in the A Class. They were 17th as a team in the combined divisions score. The girls raced with 295 individuals, 33 complete teams, and 46 schools represented.
Sutton Stoffel, a freshman, ran a 21:09 and placed 9th in her class, 17th overall. Sophomore Mya Golliher placed 20th in her class, 45th overall. Stoffel and Golliher received recognition for placing in the top 20 of the class A athletes. Following into the shoot were two seniors. Mia Fairchild came in with a 23:50, in 108th place overall. Chloe Cooper comes next with a 24:10 and taking 120th overall. Emma Cantrell, a sophomore, came in fighting with a time of 26:22 and taking 203rd. Rounding out the Apaches into the finish line was senior Josie Bailey with a time of 27:13 and placing 222nd.
The Wabash Middle School cross country team took on the competition at Indiana Wesleyan University for the Wildcat Classic.
Coming in first for the running Apaches race crew was 8th grader Grace Jones, with a season PR time of 13:39 and taking 31st place. Next up was 5th grader, Caroline Myers, running in with a PR time of 14:04 and placing 41st overall. Following in was 6th grader Eva Sommers with a time of 14:55 and taking 70th place in the race. Following in for the Apaches was 6th grader Ruby Cantrell with a season PR time of 15:30, only 1 second from her career PR and placing 90th overall. Not far behind was 5th grader Haven Cook with a PR time of 15:42 and taking 91st place. Right on her heels was 5th grader Marlowe Fansher with a PR time of 15:52 and in 95th place. Another Apache into the shoot was 5th grader, Lily Hearn, running in with a PR time of 15:53 and taking 96th place. The next Apache in was our 5th grader, Lola Hill, with a PR time of 15:56 and coming in 99th in the line up. Alexis Lynn, an 8th grader, followed into the shoot in 18:10 and taking 133rd place. Up next was 6th grader Rory Edwards, finishing her race with a season PR time of 18:11 and taking 135th place. Not far from her was 5th grader Lauren Cook with a PR time of 18:52 and in 142nd place. Following into the shoot was Harper Ellet, an 8th grader. Ellet ran a season PR time of 18:58 and placed 143rd. Next for the team was 6th grader, Braelyn Jones, running in with a time of 19:11 and placing 144th overall. Following into the shoot was 5th grader, Alora Hampton, with a PR time of 19:15 and finishing in 145th place. Next up was another 5th grader, Roslyn Hall, with a placement of 160th and running in with a time of 21:03. Up next for the team was 7th grader Raelyn Page with a PR time of 22:06 and taking 161st place. Rounding out the Apache line up was 7th grader Daisy Ravenscroft finishing her race in a time of 26:29 and placed 167th overall.
The Wabash Middle School boys cross country team finished 2nd in the 21 team field at the IWU Wildcat Classic Saturday morning. Jeffery Small led the pack from the gun and broke away at the 1k mark to claim the individual victory. There were 162 total runners in the race. Easton Cantrell and Macklin Denney added top 20 finishes coming in 15th and 16th. Luke Aspinwall was close behind in 26th. Lukas Rojas came in 34th. Aiden Young came in 84th, Chase LaSalle 108th, Parker Treska 109th, Isaac Mattern 113th, Liam Hubbard 143rd, Finn Fairchild 153rd, and Leo Miles 157th.
