Results from Maconaquah for Saturday, September 19th
The Lady Braves competed in the eight team Tippy Valley Invitational Saturday. We had four competitive and close matches and went 2-2 on the day for a third place finish. The Lady Braves are now 17-7(4-1 TRC) on the season.
Our first match of the day was against South Bend St. Joseph. We played them close exchanging service runs throughout the match. We took the first set but were unable to make the plays late in the second and third set to fall 25-17, 22-25, 13-15. Our next match was a Non conference contest with Manchester. We were neck and neck in the first set before winning 25-23. Set two had us playing some clean volleyball and taking the stand match 25-17. Our third match of the day saw us take on Triton. We had control issues and played our worst volleyball of the day. Despite our error prone play we had opportunities to take control before losing 23-25, 22-25. After a tie breaker on point differential the Braves took second place in pool play, setting up a match up with Northfield.
The 3rd place match was a tight affair from beginning to the end. The Braves dropped the first set 24-26. We were able to improve our block and defense in the second set to win 26-24. The third set had us fighting back from match point to win 16-14. Kasey Murry finished the match with a big roof block to win.
Setter Delaney Betzner ran the Braves offense and had 84 assists and served 11 aces on the day. Betzner added 34 digs and four blocks defensively. Middle Ireland Kile put down 41 kills, blocked five balls, and dug up 44 digs playing all around. Outside hitter Kasey Murry had 31 kills, five aces, six blocks, and 37 digs throughout the tourney. Fellow OH Lucee Jernagan put down 19 kills and had 25 digs for the Lady Braves. Bailei Boggs tallied eight kills and Sara Gil Bonnin added four kills and four blocks. Eliot Fuller put away three kills and had three digs. Naomi Cook saved 23 points with a dig, and Ida Kiener also had 23 digs as well as four aces.
The Lady Braves host Rochester for a TRC match Tuesday. JV starts at 6 with Varsity to follow.
