Pace Walk Off Single Lifts Knights Past Apaches

The Southwood Lady Knights got a walk off single from Makenna Pace to capture a 7-6 comeback win over county rival Wabash Wednesday.

Southwood grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first. Kassity Simpson led off with a double before advancing to third on a passed ball and scoring on an error.

Wabash would tie the score in the top of the third. Taylor Mettler singled and advanced to second on a one out error. The Apaches would then pull off a double steal to make it 1-1.

In the fourth Alivia Short led off with a single and was followed by a Sydnee Osborn double. Hannah Halverson was then hit by a pitch to load the bases when Tabby Wagner singled home Short for a 2-1 lead. With two outs Whitney Working would single home Osborn and Halverson for a Wabash 4-1 lead. The Knights would get a run back in the bottom of the inning. Erin McGouldrick would lead off with a single and was followed by a Makenkie Lambert walk. With one out McGouldrick would score on a Kassity Simpson fly out to make it 4-2.

Wabash would increase their lead in the fifth. With one out Short would single and scored on a Osborn double. A Halverson single would out runners on the corners. Osborn would then score on a fielders choice for a 6-2 lead. Southwood would get a run back in the bottom of the inning. With one out Keagan Simpson would single and was followed by a Kayla mays single. With two outs Simpson would score on an Apache error to make it 6-3.

The Knights would tie the game in the sixth. Kassity Simpson would walk before reaching third on a one out double from Pace. Tabitha Thomas followed with a single to score Simpson to make it 6-4. Keagan Simpson would follow with a single before a Mays single scored two runs for a 6-6 score.

In the bottom of the seventh Aaliyah Douglass would be hit by a pitch. With Douglass on first with two outs Maddie Turner would draw a walk before Pace single home Douglass for the winning run.
