The Manchester Squires hit early and often as they defeated Ft Wayne Wayne 13-3 in five innings Wednesday.
Manchester would score in every inning. Manchester would grab a 1-0 lead in the first Grant Strobel led off with a walk. Mason Meyer would follow with a one out walk before a dropped third strike with two outs put the Squires up 1-0.
Wayne would score a run in the top of the second before the Squires answered in a big way. Korbin Hensley and Sam Martindale drew back to back walks before a one out walk by Jacob Slavkin loaded the bases. A wild pitch would score Hensley before a Strobel single scored Martindale for a 3-1 lead. Kam Lester would follow with a double to chase home Slavkin and Strobel to lead 5-1. Meyer would end the scoring driving home Lester with a double.
The lead grew to 7-1 in the third before Wayne scored twice in the fourth to make it 7-3. Again Manchester would answer. Meyer would single and was followed by a Mason Roberts walk. Thane Creager would walk to load the bases before a fly out scored Meyer. Martindale would then single home Devin Marcum to make it 9-3. Creager would score the final run of the inning on a Kyle Shepherd fielders choice for a 10-3 score.
The Squires would end the evening in the fifth when Michael Learned singled. Roberts would draw a one out walk and was followed by Trey Clark being hit by a pitch. Learned scored the 11th run on a passed ball before a Martindale single ended the game 13-3.
