Apaches Knock Off #5 Kings

The Wabash Apaches put on a bunting clinic in the sixth inning Saturday to come back and defeat #5 Lewis Cass 6-2 in the Wabash sectional semi finals.

The Apaches would grab a 1-0 lead in the first when Trenton Daughtry led the game off drawing a walk before scoring on a Blake Gribben grounder to lead 1-0.

Cass would respond with solo runs in the second and fifth to take a 2-1 lead before the exciting Wabash sixth. Jasper Walter would lead off the inning with a single and was followed by a Daughtry bunt single. Robert Irgang would then lay down a perfect bunt and beat it out to load the bases. With one out Gribben would hit a grounder to first with the play at home being thrown away to tie the score 2-2. Payton Sodervick would follow with a grounder to short with the Kings botching another play at home to give Wabash a 3-2 lead before Irgang raced home on the bad throw for a 4-2 lead. Bryant Boggs would lay down the next perfect bunt, beating it out while Gribben scored for a 5-2 lead. The Kings would hit two singles in the bottom of the inning with the Apaches working their way out of the jam.

Needing an insurance run against a potent Kings team the Apaches fot just that in the seventh. Walter and Irgang would single before a Kallen Kelsheimer single scored Daughtry to lead 6-2. Again the Apaches worked their way out of a small jam in the bottom of the inning to secure the 6-2 win and earn the right to play for a sectional championship Monday
