Lady Squires Defense Stops Apaches

The Manchester Lady Squires defeated Wabash 54-38 Thursday.

From tip off, it was a very physical game with a lot of fouls both ways. The first half was tight as the Lady Squires went into halftime with a 24-20 lead. Coming out of the locker room, the ladies outscored Wabash by 20 points in the 3rd quarter. Aggressive defense fueled the Squires and frustrated the Apaches who only scored 2 points in the 3rd quarter.

Keilan Creager led all scorers with 16 points and also had 3 assists. Ainsley West had 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 5 blocks. Brookelynn Buzzard had 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Makenzy Meyer had 11 points and 8 rebounds. Aliala Atienza and Gracie Lauer both contributed key defensive plays and each had 3 rebounds and 1 assist. Molly Schannep also dded 1 point.

Wabash, now 6-13, was led in scoring by Kierra Wilson with 9 points while Hannah Layne added 7. Wilson and Linda Cordes pulled down 6 rebounds each while Libby Mattern and Rylee Yoakum each had 4 steals to pace the Lady Apaches.

The Lady Apache JV avenged a county tourney defeat with a 48-40 win at Manchester. Wabash, now 6-10, trailed at the half by 2 but came out with a 31 point second half to grab the win. Kait Honeycutt poured in 20 points to lead the Lady Apaches while Janika Stumbo and Bella Vail added 7 each.
