In cold, rainy weather more fit for a late fall football game than a golf match, the Lady Braves defeated Eastern 170 to 205. Sophomore Daisy Williams had a roller coaster round which included double bogeying the first hole then eagling the second hole. She then birdied her fourth hold en route to a final score of 37 (one over par). The 37 was good enough for medalist honors in the two team match. Junior Miranda Stoll was second in scoring with a 41. Playing Chippendale, site of this week’s sectionals, Miranda went consverative off tee to keep the ball in play on the heavily tree lined course and let her iron game help her shoot 41. Senior Courtney Stoll also when consverative off the tee, hitting driver only twice during the round, and finished the day with a third best 42. Sophomore FInley Dobbs used accurate driving to shot a 50. Finley’s score would have been much lower with better putting, but the usually quick Chippendale greens were extremely slow due to the 2 inches of rain that fell on the course before the match started. Senior Lehna Wagner had trouble off the tee early in the round which lead to higher than desired scores. She went more conservative late in the round hitting irons off the tees and her scoring improved as she finished with a 53.

In Junior Varsity play, Juniore Sydney Barnes fired a career low 54. Her game has improved each week and last night was pay off for all that hard work. Junior Kathryrn Rodkey had some trouble with the soggy fairways, but was able to scramble well and finish her round. Junior Haley Washburn also played impressively, hitting her driver long and straight and scrambling well when she got near the green. Freshman Maya Wagner, like Sydney, gets better each week as she kept the ball in play off the tee and was observed to hit greens from more than 100 yards away. Fellow freshman Jade Chritstopher had some issues as the soggy conditions made solid ball striking easy, but she was able to find a way to get the ball in the hole.

The Lady Braves are back in action tonight at the Wabash Invitation at Peru Municipal Golf Course (long story) on Tuesday night.

As always, the Lady Braves appreciate all the support from the parents, family, and friends that attend each match.
