Manchester Boys Varsity soccer won their fifth game in a row with a 4-0 defeat of Lakeland Christian Academy to move their record to 10-1-1.

The Squires first goal came in the 20th minute of the first half when Tyler McLain scored on the rebound of a shot by Nathaniel Miller. Not much later, Miller found the back of the net on an unassisted goal. With eight minutes remaining, Caleb Sautter headed the ball into the goal on a corner kick delivered by Diego Munoz. Just a minute later, Michael Ortiz was taken down just outside the right side of the box. On the free kick, Ortiz curled a shot into the upper left corner of the goal for Manchester’s fourth goal of the half. The Squire defense played most of the game close to midfield, while Lakeland packed the box, sometimes with all eleven players within the 18.

In the second half, the Squires earned a penalty kick, but failed to convert the shot. Three yellow cards, each one for rough play, were issued in the game — two to Manchester and one to Lakeland Christian. The Squires play at Mississinewa on Wednesday.

The Manchester Boys Junior Varsity soccer team, with only a half to play because of limited daylight, made the most of the opportunity, beating Lakeland Christian 5-0. The first goal was scored by Caleb Sautter who made a quick backheel into the goal after receiving a pass from Wyatt Young. Young followed that assist with an unassisted goal of his own. The third goal came when Jose Cortes fired a hard shot from about 25 yards away, which the goalkeeper stopped, but could not control and Masin Davila came in to finish the goal. The last two goals, both scored by Evan McLaughlin were almost identical shots from about 20 yards out into the left corner of the goal. The first was assisted by Chandler Music, while the second was unassisted. Both goals came in the last two minutes of the game. The Squire defense, collectively, did a nice job of keeping the ball in the Lakeland half of the field for the majority of play in the half. The JV record this season is a strong 4-2-2.
