Lady Apaches Soccer Sets Win Record

The Wabash Lady Apaches soccer team pick up their 10th win of the season with a 4-0 win over the Eastern Lady Comets.

10 wins is the most the Lady Apaches have had in a single season in their program history.

Senior goalkeeper Hannah Layne earned her 6th shutout of the season with 11 saves. Congributing to the shutout was junior Kiana Jones and senior Abbie Boggs, both playing incredible defensive games not allowing a dangerous Eastern offense to have many opportunities to attack. Freshman Jaycee Jones also played a solid defensive game for the Lady Apaches. Senior Libby Mattern once again held down the center of the field, continuing to win 50/50 balls and providing service to both the midfield an forwards. Offensively senior Rylee Yoakum lead the charge with another hat-trick on the season. In the 1st half with 13:56 remaining Yoakum worked the defensive line, broke free and found herself 1v1 with the goalkeeper where she burried her shot in the far corner. With 8:17 left in the half the Lady Apaches were awarded a corner kick and just as she has all season K. Jones put a fantastic ball in front of the goal and sophomore Abbi Hipskind put it away to put Wabash up 2-0 going into halftime.

Wabash continued to keep the offensive pressure on with sophomore Kait Honeycutt, junior Natalie Adams, sophomore Graci Napier giving Wabash great opportunities and then with 30:46 left in the 2nd have junior Maddie Von Uhl put a great ball through the Comet defense leading to another Yoakum goal. Yoakum then broke away from the defensive line with the ball at her feet and just seconds left on the clock and put her last goal of the game away with time expiring as it hit the back of the net! The Wabash Lady Apaches now improve to 10-2 on the season. Wabash is back in action on Monday at Taylor (Kokomo) at 6pm.
