Manchester Swim Teams Fall To Huntington

The Manchester swim teams fell to Huntington North Tuesday.

The Manchester girls swim team took first place in 7 out of 11 events, but were unable to overcome Huntington North’s depth in Tuesday night’s loss to the Vikings. Rachel Garcia and Josie Briner were each quadruple winners. Garcia took first in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, and Briner took first in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. Briner and Garcia teamed with Hannah Eberly and Noelle Walt to take first in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. The quartet lowered their own school record in the 200 freestyle relay by .01 seconds after Briner charged back to take the lead on the race’s final leg. Eberly took the final first place of the night by winning the 100 breaststroke in another close race.

Several Squire swimmers posted lifetime best swims. Eberly lowered her best time in the 200 free by over 4 seconds. Evyn Fox broke the 7 minute barrier in the 500 freestyle taking 4 secons off her previous best. Wynter Harris continued her steady improvement by knocking 8 seconds off her best in the 200 freestyle and over 3 seconds off her best in the 100 backstroke.

Liam York, Caden Marcum, and Cale Bennett were each double winners for Manchester, but the Squires couldn’t keep pace with Huntington North on Tuesday night. Marcum won the 200 freestyle,York won the 100 freestyle, and Bennett was victorious in the 500 freestyle. Marcum, York, and Bennett teamed up with Roberto Iaione to take first in the 400 freestyle relay as well. Finshing second for Machester were York in the 200 IM, Bennett in the 100 butterfly, and Tristan Schmid in the 100 breaststroke. The 200 medley relay team of York, Schmid, Bennett, and Marcum also finished second. The Squires will hunker down for two weeks of heavy training before emerging to face Wabash on January 4th at the Wabash County YMCA.
