Knights Fall At Maconaquah In Final Seconds
The Southwood boys basketball team fell to Maconaquah 80-78 in the final seconds Friday.
A game where who had the ball last would survive the night and claim the victory, did just that. Tied at 78 with 10 seconds to remain, the Braves had the go ahead lay up from a contested play on the defensive end. The Knights had a good look at the buzzer from the arc for the win, but the ball bounced off the rim for the 78-80 loss to Maconaquah.
The Knights responded from a 38-32 halftime deficit, to score 31 points in the third quarter to take a 63-58 lead into the final stanza. Nathan Lehner scored 12 points in the quarter, including hittingthree 3 point field goals. Cole Winer also sparked the scoring with eight points himself.
The game was tied midway through the fourth quarter and teeter tottered to the final closing seconds.
“The scoreboard and our standing may show we lost, but I am very proud of our boys tonight. They gave everything they had. It was an emotional night to play against Coach Burrus, for all of us. The clock just expired on us.”

Southwood High School Boys Junior Varsity Basketball beat Maconaquah High School 60-55
Caleb Wyatt scored 8 in the 4th quarter and Bryce Wilcox led the Knights with 19 to help the JV Knights get a hard fought road win.
