============================

After waiting almost 20 years to earn their first sectional title, the Lady Braves only had to wait 364 days for their second as a total team effort led to a repeat championship.

Leading the Braves was Junior Daisy Williams who ended the day with a 77. Daisy played her usual game of hitting safe shots into the fairway and then playing smart shots into the greens. Doing so helped her avoid the pitfalls some of the pin positions could have led to. Daisy’s only blemish on the day came on the tight 11th hole when her drive ended up out of bounds by a few yards. She re-gathered herself and parred with her second ball to score her only double bogey of the day. Less than a week after successfully defending her TRC title, Daisy finished third overall in sectionals.

Senior Miranda Stoll made the turn in one over par 37 and continued her fine play on the back nine, ending the day with a 79, fourth best sectional scoring. She also played it safe off the tee hitting a 7 iron and a few hybrids to keep the ball in play on the tight fairways. With her strong iron play she still had plenty of birdie chances and only a few missed putts late kept her from turning in a better score. Miranda’s 77 was a 4 stroke improvement from her performance last year and is more evidence their all of her hard work has paid off this season.

Third for the Lady Braves was Freshman Aubrey Stoll who ended the day with a 96. Playing in her first sectionals, Aubrey showed tremendous maturity playing calmly and bouncing back each time she struggled. She made a triple bogey on the long 6th hole, and bounced back by playing the next two holes one over. She made another triple bogey on the 9th hold, but bounced back by parring the 10th hole. Her 96 put her in 6th overall in the sectional field and another sign that she is going to develop into a fantastic golfer.

Junior Filnley Dobbs had the bounce back tournament she deserved after all the work she had put into her game the past few weeks. Last year Finley’s play in the sectionals helped Maconaquah win it’s first ever sectional title and her play this year helped the team defend their title. Her improved long game overcame a bulky putter as she ended the day with a 97, good enough for 7th overall in sectional scoring.

Senior Haley Washburn, playing in her first sectionals, played well and ended her day with a 100. This score would tie her for 11th overall in the field. Haley got off to a challenging start on both the front and back nine, but each time she was able to bounce back and grind out good scores. As she had done all season, Haley followed up errant shots with great recoveries and never got flustered.

The Lady Braves playing lead them to a 51 stroke victory over second place Western (who advances to regionals) and a 53 stroke win over Eastern (who also advances to regionals). The Lady Braves made the turn at 174 (team total 30 over par) and had a 30 stroke lead on both teams. The Lady Braves actually improved on their back nine score shooting 175 (team total 27 over par on the par 37 back nine). The 349 was good enough to secure the teams fourth straight regional appearance.

The Lady Braves will tee off in regionals this Saturday at Battleground Golf Course in Battleground Indiana.
