Knights Win Nail Biter Over Squires

The Southwood and Manchester football teams battled to a scoreless tie for three quarters Friday before the Knights out scored the Squires 8-7 in the fourth for the win.

In the first quarter Manchester’s Eli Metzger intercepted a pass that mounted a Squires drive into the second quarter. The Knights defense would hold as they started their own drive that stalled on the Manchester 22 before the half ended in a 0-0 tie.

The third quarter would be a stalemate that setup the exciting fourth quarter. At the 8:00 mark Logan Eastgate and Reiss Gaerte would hook up from 72yds out to give the Squires a 7-0 lead. With 3:00 left Griffin Chambers would find a gap and race 66yds to make it 7-6. The Knights elected to go for two with Chambers finding Coan Holloway for an 8-7 lead. The Squires had one more shot and marched into Knight territory before the Southwood defense held for the 8-7 win.
