The host Western Panthers edged Oak Hill 271.0 to 269.5 to win the Western Invitational on Saturday, December 9, 2023. First place came down to the final match of the tournament – the 285 weight class championship. Going into that final match Oak Hill led Western by a score of 269.5 to 265.0. Western’s scoring wrestler beat his teammate (a non-scoring wrestler) with a pin in 5:20. Winning that match by a pin gave Western 6 points and a 1.5 point win over Oak Hill.

Girls Varsity Basketball falls to Mississinewa 39 – 36

Oak Hill lost a tight one at Mississinewa this early afternoon. It was a hard fought game between two good teams. Oak Hill got in a bit of a hole but kept fighting back and had a chance to tie it late but just missed the tying shot.

Leading scorer for Oak Hill was Elizabeth Grace Godfrey with 11 points followed up by Lydia Trexler with 9 and Lex Myers with 8.

Leading rebounder was Lydia Trexler with 5 and three Oak Hill girls had 4 each (Alivia Shaw, Erika Newhouse and Landri Hardman).

Oak Hill had 9 assists on the night led by their two freshman-Erika Newhouse with 4 and Landri Hardman with 3.

Varsity is 7-4 on the year and 2-1 in conference.

JV won 54-19 and they are 9-2 on the season. Sarah Beth Tripp had 22 points for the JV

Boys Swimming WIN Norwell Invite

The boys won the Norwell Invite for the 2nd year in a row.

Senior Ethan Leal won 4 for 4 at today’s invite. Junior Owen Lynch, Sophomore Evan Bledsoe, and Freshman Dylan Archer all accompanied him in winning 2 out of the 3 relays.

Sophomore Evan Bledsoe also won individually in the 100 Breaststroke.

Freshman Dylan Archer also won individually in the 50 Freestyle.

Boys Varsity Basketball falls to Maconaquah 88 – 60

The Boys Varsity Basketball team ran in to a hot shooting Maconaquah team in the 1st half and had to play from behind the rest of the way. The Braves hit 8 of 12 from behind the arch in the first half to take a 45-28 halftime lead. The Golden Eagles came out the 3rd quarter and limited the Braves to no three point makes that quarter and equaled them in scoring at 21 all. However the Braves went to work on the inside in the 4th quarter and ended up winning 88-60. In the game there was some good hard play from the Eagles, especially in the 2nd half, that they will take in to practice next week as they prepare to head into a tough Frankton team and environment Friday night. In the game Ty Fagan ended up with 18 points and several rebounds. Jace Tonagel and RJ Shugart hit 4 and 3 three point shots respectively and ended up with 16 and 13 points a piece. Tonagel added 7 assists and Shugart 6 assists. Colin Middlesworth came off the bench to provide some good minutes scoring 6. Rounding out the scoring was Trexler with 3, and Trenton Sweet and Jackson Lamb both with 2.
