Norse Wrestlers Have Busy Weekend
The Northfield boys and girls wrestling teams were in action Saturday.
The boys’ varsity wrestling team traveled to Northridge High School on Saturday to compete in the Raiders Invitational, which hosted several 4A and 3A schools.
The Norsemen’s only team victory was over Laville High School (45-27). Northfield fell to Penn (57-21), Northwood (54-26), Homestead (60-18), and Northridge (64-12). Individually, Sophomore Isaac Stakeman (4-0) and freshman Lucas Law (1-0) went undefeated for the day. Seven Northfield Lady Wrestlers traveled to Lebanon High School to compete in the 5th Annual Lady Tiger Invitational. The tournament hosted 385 girls from 55 different high schools.
The Northfield ladies place 15th, in the top 27% of the teams present, with 5 of 7 placing. Junior Ella Gahl brought home 1st place in the 130 lbs excellent bracket over 16 other girls. Gahl went 4-0 on the day, winning all her matches by pin. Junior Lindsey Dill (140 lbs) and Sophomore Ella France (130 lbs) placed 3rd. Dill went 3-1, and France went 2-1 for the day. Senior Alexis Gates placed 5th in the 170 lbs bracket with a record of 3-1, and Freshman Amarah Frieden went 3-2, placing 7th in the 135 lbs A bracket. The Lady Norsemen will next host the first-ever all-girls dual meet at Northfield on Thursday, Dec 14. The ladies will host Blackford, North Miami, and Peru High School in a head-to-head dual meet action. Wrestling will start at 6:30 pm.
