Boys Varsity Basketball beats Peru 88 – 68

The Braves were able to win in a big TRC, County game against Peru 88-68. The Braves are now 8-3 overall, and 3-1 in the TRC.

Coach Burrus Quotes: “This game was one of the best performances as a group we have had. We had a good week of preparation for this weekend. The team play was fun to watch. We also relly appreciated all the support. For this game, I am going to make a few comments about each player along with stats.

Kaden Miller- Did not play because of a hemotoma in his quad, thigh area. He continues to be a vocal team leader. He is still a captain and will continue to impact the team with his positive energy. He will return in a few weeks. His pressure up front has really helped us, all season.

Braxton Birner- He has been very sick for a couple of weeks. We are thrilled he is back and will start to get him ready to go this week. Braxton has worked hard this year and has really pushed the players on the team. He will continue to be a positive part of this team. Very glad he is feeling better.

Oakley Reeser- 3pts 1ast 2reb 1st

He got his first start against Peru. I felt confident putting Oakley in there. He has been locked in during practice all season and provides a lot of different contributions to our team. He has helped more with pressure up top in our defense. He can play down low, too. On offense, he hit a big 3 to close the third quarter. He did a great job keeping pressure on the Peru guards. Oakley knows the game and he is really improving in all aspects of the game.

MJ Ellis- 4pts 3bl 2st 5reb 2ast

The coaches noticed major improvements this week from MJ. He just seemed to be making more plays on both ends. When he came in the Peru game he made a major impact on the game. He made it very difficult for them to get easy baskets. MJ has been working very hard and it is paying off. He gives us major energy off the bench. I really liked how he played in the Peru game.

Ethan Zeiser 10pts 7reb 2st 2ast 1bl

He is such a key for us. He hit huge shots to help us win the county. Nobody will ever forget that corner 3 at Peru. Ethan really thinks the game. He plays two spots in our defense. He also is one of our top rebounders and always gets steals. Ethan has made huge strides as a leader and a varsity player that can do a lot of things on both ends. I liked his 7 rebounds in this game. Also, his 10 points were in a variety of ways. Zeiser is a great example of what we are all about. He is also one of the leaders of making sure the school song is sung on the way home on road trips, win or lose.

AJ Kelly 18pts 6reb 5ast 1st

What a game AJ put together. He played great defense the whole game. To be able to score 18 points with that defensive assignment was a full night. Then you throw in the rebounds and assists he played a complete game. AJ just continues to improve. He does what needs to get done. You give him an assignment and he will go out and do it. I am amazed by the way he can finish. He had two unbelievable finishes in the Peru game. He had a great tip against Tipton. AJ does what it takes to win.

Fuddy Kile 23pts 6reb 4ast 1st 1bl

I felt Fuddy really was big in this Peru game. He is another that plays multiple roles for us. He bothered on the top like Oakley. He also went down low and defended and got rebounds. Fuddy is known for keeping posessions alive by getting on the offensive glass. He goes and goes. His improvement this year has helped us become a better team. The 23 points he put up in the Peru game were huge. He is also a big key to our running game. He hit 5 three point shots. We really needed those 3’s. Fuddy Kile is a key for us and he makes us better.

Josiah Ball 30pts 5reb 8ast 2st

Josiah was able to go over 1000 points in this Peru game. We have at least 13 games left THIS year! What a career Josiah is putting together. He is putting up incredible numbers but he is doing it in a way that we all are enjoying being a part of it. He knows how important his teammates are to him. To see teams come out with 3 players, or even 5 players trying to guard him shows how far his game has come. I have been asked, what makes Ball so tough? He is so skilled. He is also very fast. He also sees the floor. 8 assists is a lot of looks to his teammates. He also loves the game. He wants to win. He also loves to be in the gym. He is very athletic with his ability to get off the floor. Josiah Ball is a great high school player. Congratulations to Josiah Ball and his family on reaching 1000 points. We are all excited for him, and to have a small part in it.

Mike Kennedy and Wyatt Hughes, the coaches- I wanted to mention these guys because they are doing so much for Maconaquah Basketball. Wyatt and Mike love our kids. They coach everybody and are very positive influences on these kids. We give out little basketballs after games to top performers. Mike gave me one after the Peru game. I really appreciated that. I am so thankful for them and all they do. Both are legends as players. It is a thrill for a normal guy like me to be in their presence every day. Thanks guys!!!

Feature Manager- Josie Callane. This girl is one of our great managers we have on this team. She always makes sure things get done every practice and game. Congratulations Josie. You are our featured manager!!!
