The Manchester junior high girls basketball teams played in the Caston Invite Saturday, with the 7th grade bringing home the title.

In the first game of the Caston Tourney, the girls played against Rochester and squeaked out a narrow victory by a score of 24-23. The Squires shot well in the first 3 quarters, but couldn’t generate points in the 4th quarter. The girls made enough stops on the defensive end to secure the win and advance to the championship game. Scoring against Rochester was McKayla Dillon (2), Elin Betten (9), Brooklynn Grimes (7), Ely Mobley (4), and Emersyn Sarber (2).

The championship game was against Lewis Cass. The Lady Squires grabbed the lead early and never looked back outscoring Cass in each of the four quarters! The defense played great and a very balanced scoring attack punctuated a great victory!

McKayla Dillon – 6
Elin Betten – 9
Brooklynn Grimes – 8
Hope Dawson – 2
Rachel Eberly – 3
Emersyn Sarber – 2
Clare D’Andrea – 3
Congratulations to the 7th grade Lady Squires for bringing home the Caston Tourney Championship Trophy!

In the first game of the Caston Tourney, the Squires took on Rochester. The girls played great from the opening tip to the final buzzer scoring a season high 43 points to Rochester’s 20 points. All 7 girls scored in the game led by Shiann Owens with a career high 18 points. Rounding out the scoring was Olivia Stevens (9), Marysa Stroud (5), Finley Espeset (4), Piper Spangle (2), Lily Sare (4), and Hannah Dawson (1).

In the championship game, the girls battled extremely hard against a very tall Caston team. We struggled with foul trouble but the bench played well and kept us in the game. A big run by Caston in the 3rd quarter proved to be the difference, but the coaches are very proud of the girls effort and grittiness through some tough circumstances to keep the game competitive. Scoring against Caston was as follows:

Olivia Stevens – 5
Marysa Stroud – 7
Piper Spangle – 5
Shiann Owens – 6
Lily Sare – 2
The girls next play at Northfield on Monday.
