OHTF Lady Eagles Win 8 Events to Score Over 100 Points in Winning their 14th Straight Grant 4 Championship – Campbell & Highley Lead the Way With Combined 5 1st

The OHTF Lady Eagles withstood one of their biggest challenges in recent years from a very talented Eastbrook squad Friday night at Mississinewa to win their 14th consecutive (15 if you count the lost season of 2020) Grant 4 Championship. The Lady Eagles won 8 of the 16 events and earned a 2nd or 3rd place finish in 15 additional events to score 107 points. Eastbrook was Runner Up with 88 while Mississinewa and Madison Grant were 3rd and 4th with 28 and 21 points respectively.

Lady Eagle Junior Ellie Campbell was the lone 3 event Champion for OHTF on the night. Campbell won the Long Jump with just one jump of 17-1 and tied Junior Bella Taylor for 1st Place in the High Jump. Campbell then earned her 3rd win of the night anchoring the 4×100 Meter Relay. Along with the Golden Eagle boy’s win in the same event it became the 1st time in over 25 years that OHTF swept both the 4×1 Relays in the same county meet. Campbell was joined on the relay by Juniors Riley Alfandre and Cail Bowlin along with Sophomore Ava Miller. Miller added a strong 3rd in the Long Jump behing Campbell.

Taylor became just the 3rd Lady Eagle in the last almost two decades to win the 100 Meter Hurdles. It was the 1st time since 2014 a Lady Eagle won the event.

Senior Lady Eagle Leah Highley grabbed a pair of 1st along with a 2nd and 3rd for her body of work Friday. Highley won the 400 Meter Dash in 1:00 and anchored the 4×400 Meter Relay to a win and their best time outdoors this spring at 4:18. Highley was joined on the relay by Freshman Kora Pond along with Sophomores Lexi Nuber and AUdrey Rex. Highley added a strong 3rd in the 100 Meter Dash and a Runner Up in the 200 Meter Dash. Bowlin posted a 3rd in the 200 behind Highley and a strong 4th in the 100. Rex took 3rd in the open 400 behind Highley.

Nuber and Pond were both multi event winners on the night. Nuber took 1st in the 300 Meter Hurdles while Pond was part of the winning 4×800 Meter Relay. The relay consisted of Freshman Quinn Brunner, Sophomore Biruk Travis, and Senior Evelin Perez. Nuber added a 3rd in the 100 Meter Hurdles while Pond a 2nd in the 800 Meter Run.

Travis added a 2nd in the 3200 Meter Run as well as a 3rd in both the 1600 Meter Run and 800 Meter Run.

Junior Lady Eagle Jennessa Shields scored big points in the throws taking Runner Up honors in both the Shot Put and Discus. Classmate Gwen Thompson was 3rd to Shields in the Shot Put.

The Lady Eagles are in action back at Missssinewa Tuesday April 30th when they compete against ALexandria and the host Lady Indians. The Ladies host the Central Indiana Conference Championship next Friday May 3rd.

OHTF Golden Eagles Win 11 Events Totaling 109 Points to Win 5th Straight Grant 4 Title – Jackson Leads the Way as a 4 Event Champion, Sweet & Scott Win 3 Each

The OHTF Golden Eagles battled cold wet conditions Friday night at Mississinewa to capture their 5th consecutive (6th if you count the lost season of 2020) Grant 4 Championship. A very young and talented Madison Grant team was Runner up with 57 points with Mississinewa a close 3rd with 53 and Eastbrook 4th with 25.

In all the Golden Eagles won 11 of the 16 events, went 1-2 in 4 events, and added an additinal 9 2nd or 3rd Place Finishes.

Senior Owen Jackson led the way winning all 4 of his events. In doing so Jackson became just the 5th Golden Eagle to win 4 events at the Grant 4 in the last 20 years. He joined Classmate Trenton Sweet who did it last year, Sammy Sommers in 2019, Alec Samuels in 2012, and Cameron Balser who did it twice in 2008 and 2010. Jackson individually took the win in the both the 400 Meter Dash and 800 Meter Run. He grabbed relay 1st in the 4×800 Meter Relay and as the anchor on the 4×400 Meter Relay. Joining Jackson on the 4×8 were Sweet, classmate Toby Sneed, and Junior Lance Wyrick. Wyrick joined Jackson on the 4×4 along with Seniors Levi Trexler and AJ Austin.

Sweet himself followed up his 4 wins in 2023 with 3 Friday. After joining Jackson on the 4×8 Relay Sweet captured the 1600 Meter Run and 3200 Meter Run while also adding a Runner Up to Jackson in the 800.

Trexler was part of the winning 4×100 Meter Relay as well. An event the Golden Eagles had not win since 2019 when they set a meet record. Along with the Lady Eagle’s win in the same event it became the 1st time in over 25 years that OHTF swept the 4×1 Relay titles. Joining Trexler on the Relay were Juniors Reese Hernandez and Morshown Cotton along with Freshman Jalen Scott.

Scott joined Sweet and Jackson as multiple individual event winners as the Golden Eagle Sprinter took 1st in both the 100 Meter Dash and 200 Meter Dash. It was the 1st time in Porgram History a Freshman Golden Eagle swept those events.

Hernandez added strong points in both the sprints behind Scott taking 4th in the 100 and 3rd in the 200.

Sneed had a big night in the endurance events adding a 2nd in both the 1600 and 3200 behind Sweet.

Seniors Tai Johnson and Nate Brower added field event wins as Johnson won the Shot Put with a throw over 44 feet while Brower took the Pole Vault in 13 feet. Brower’s younger Freshman brother Kyle was 2nd in the Pole Vault at 12 feet continuing his steller first year.

Wyrick along with Junior Drew Elzinga scored solid points in the hurdle events as the duo went 2-3 in the 300 Hurdles while Elzinga added a 3rd in the 110 Hurdles.

Austin put good points up for the Golden Eagles with a 3rd in both the 400 Meter Dash and Long Jump.
