Manchester tennis remained undefeated on the season and at the top of the TRC conference with a resounding victory over host Whitko 5-0.

The three singles matches saw Manchester’s stars shine to a combined 35-2 game count. Manchester notches their first two points at 2 & 3 singles. Myla Crozier didn’t give up a game winning 6-0,6-0.. After winning the opening game in a single deuce, there were few close games the rest of the way. From the outset Bethany Penrod showed why she’s one of the top players in the conference as she controlled her shots to direct the points to her favor. Sarah Kerlin continued her strong play at 1 singles as she traded big shots and serves but proved why she’s the top conference player as her consistency and strategizing kept her winning streak alive. Manchester’s doubles took a set to sharpen their skills after a 4 day lay off due to prom and rainouts. At 2 doubles, Hailey Krom and Kate Schroll closed out a 6-4 set one and jumped out to a lead in set two and rolled to a quicker 6-2 second set win. Moments later the 1 doubles duo of Carleigh Blevins and Addison Brubaker overcame their own errors, a recovering sprained ankle, and their hesitations to flip a 3-4 and then 4-5 deficit into 4 straight games won and a 7-5,1-0 lead. The next two games saw a relapse into errors before they shook that off and won 5 quick games to take set two 6-2.

In JV play, Manchester held its top 9 available players back at home for a much needed intrasquad scrimmage of competitive singles and excellent doubles. With so many strong JV players, Ruby Martin, Audrey Sanson, and Citlali Quiroz Alvarez came through with solid singles wins 8-2, 8-2, and 8-1 respectively. Manchester’s wonderful seniors competed well at JV doubles but fell just short of victory. Alexa Weaver and Carrie Hoffmeyer came back getting close at 6-7 before losing 6-8 while Isabelle Anguilm and Myra Walker narrowly lost 5-8.

Manchester hosts Huntington North on Wednesday and travels to Bluffton on Thursday.
