Northfield Wins JH Football Battle Over Manchester
The Northfield junior high football team defeated Manchester 20-6 Tuesday.
The Norse held Manchester to negative rushing yards while giving up just three pass completions, one for a touchdown.
Northfield ran for 182 yards. Corbin Goshert rushed for 138 yards on 13 carries, one for a TD. Cody Holmes added 31 yards on four carries, adding a TD. And Lukas Southwick had 14 yards on as many attempts, and added his own TD. Lucas Law rounded out with eight yards on two carries.
Cody Holmes was a menace on defense as well with six tackles, five of which were solos and four of which were for losses, and a big fumble recovery. Isaiah Wideman had three pass defenses while Peyton Taylor had a blocked PAT and a sack. Rylan Turner chipped in three tackles, one for loss, and a ball batted at the line of scrimmage while Eli Shoue pitched in four tackles, two for loss, and Lukas Southwick added an interception to lead the defense.
The seventh grade Norse looked sharp, playing to a 6-all tie in the fifth quarter.
Ian Blaylock paced the Norse rushing attack with 37 yards on six carries. Briggs Baker tallied 13 yards on three rushes while Derek Henry chipped in 10 yards on one carry.
Kolten Prus returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown to highlight a well play quarter.
Blaylock had a tackle for loss on defense for the Norse while Kasen Fitch has in on two tackles. Ean Selleck, Baker and Mason Stellar each were in on tackles as well.
Another hard fought game, but the Squires came up short. A 20-6 loss. Offensive highlights, Ryder Foust went 4 of 12 for 96 yards and a touchdown. Resto D’andrea had 3 catches for 36 yards. Cody Carroll caught 1 pass for a 60 yard touchdown. Defense was lead by Maddox Greer with 10 tackles, 3 for a loss. Titus Smith had 7 tackles. Jace Garber had 6 tackles. Layne Showalter had 5 tackles and 1 for a loss. Bryson Enyeart had 5 tackles and a fumble recovery. Ryder Foust had 5 tackles and an interception. Next weeks game is at Wabash. Start time is 5:30. There will be no 7th grade game. We will play that game at a later date.
