The Wabash Apaches suffered just their second loss of the season Monday, falling to Mississinewa 70-52.
Things went south for the Apaches from the opening tip when the Indians scored the first 12 points of the game. Jared Holley would stop the run with a jumper before Mississinewa increased their lead to 17-3. Trenton Daughtry would hit the last bucket of the quarter as Wabash trailed 17-5 after one.
Daughtry and Elijah Vander Velden would keep pace with the Indians early in the second. Trailing 29-13 Vander Velden would hit to start a 6-0 run for Wabash to cut the deficit to 29-19 before the Indians answered with 6 straight for a 35-19 lead. Vander Velden would score two more times as the Apaches were down 37-22 at the half.
The Apaches came out inspired in the third quarter, scoring the first 5 points of the quarter. Vander Velden would hit a free throw, followed by buckets from Daughtry and Logan Vander velden to make it 37-27. Mississinewa would increase their lead to 46-31 when Wabash made a move. Holley would hit a three pointer, followed by two long balls from Dereck Vogel to make it 46-40. The Apaches had the opportunity to get even closer but two bogus charging calls stopped their momentum. Wabash trailed 48-40 after three.
Mississinewa would maintain their 8 to 10 point lead until 55-45 when they went on a 10-2 run to ice the game. Wabash fell 70-52.
