Manchester Tennis Sweeps Valley

The Manchester Squires Tennis Team stretched its win streak to 4 straight matches and 5 of 6 with a clean 5-0 sweep over Tippecanoe Valley on a exceptionally warm late September night. The Squires finished the 3-0 week with a decisive conference win over the rival Vikings. “Tippecanoe Valley had to make an adjustment to the lineup tonight, but our guys have really wanted this match since last year’s ever so close defeat,” said Coach Eric Screeton. The Squires wasted no time as #1 Singles Luke Donathan put on another impressive performance defeating a quality Seth Hoffman 6-0, 6-0. At #2 Singles Spence Trick took down a solid, veteran Eric Wright 6-2, 6-1. “It has been a real pleasure watching the maturation of Luke and Spence over the past three years. I think about the difficult moments both young men have experienced taking their lumps, but deep down they knew their time was coming. Well, they have kept grinding, shown resiliency, and they have arrived. Both young men pushed their records tonight to 10-5 and they have worked extremely hard to get to there. Everyone sees the results, but what people don’t see is that they partner up and push each other every day in practice and talk about different shots and strategy constantly. I am really happy for them,” added Coach Screeton. The Squires also took care of doubles as #1 Doubles Logan Parrett and Parker Wagoner defeated Payton Mills and Garrett Feldman 6-3, 6-3. At #2 Doubles Quinn Martin and Kam Lester won 12 straight games to close our their match 6-1, 6-0. “We are getting stronger and stronger at doubles and our guys are starting to really trust their shots and their partners. It has been exciting watching both teams grow and get better. I feel our team is hitting our stride at the right time,” concluded Screeton. The Squires have significantly improved upon last season’s results and hope to stay hot as they head into their last regular season match-up on Monday and Sectionals starting on Wednesday. The Squires will be back in action Monday night, 9/25, versus Rochester in North Manchester
